Paro town situated in a flat valley bottom has the only International Airport in Bhutan. The historical town of Paro lies at the center of Paro Valley along the banks of the Paro Chhu River and is blessed with rich sites and ancient buildings. It is a historic town with around 155 temples and monasteries, some dating back as far as the 14th century scattered all around the area. One of the most sacred and popular is the Takttshang Monastery ( Tiger’s Nest ). Also, the National Museum at Paro displays hundreds of ancient Bhutanese artifacts and artwork.

The iconic Taktshang monastery (Tiger’s Nest), clings to a sheer cliff face high above Paro Valley. The monastery’s seven temples are clustered around a cave where Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Vajrayana Buddhism, is said to have meditated after flying there on the back of a tiger. It is an approximate 2 km hike to the monastery (around 2 – 3 hours).
