Arti ( Puja ) in evening at the Dashashvamedh Ghat is an incredible experience. For Hindus, river Ganges OR Ganga is very pious and sacred and is worshiped like mother. Every evening , young priests dressed in saffron colour along with thousands of devotees worship Ganges for her existence in human life. Thousands of candles are flown in river Ganges. The entire atmosphere fills with spirituality amidst the sound of ringing bells, burning oil lamps and fragrance of incense.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple or Golden Temple is among the 12 most important Shiva temples for Hindus. Perhaps the most oldest Hindu temple in the world is situated in narrow lanes of Varanasi. A walk through these narrow lanes and by-lanes is a life time experience while passing through the small shops selling any thing and every thing, cows roaming on the streets and people worshiping them, Sadhus and Yogis busy in themselves.

The temple is open for foreign visitors as well from 03:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Recently temple is also open for foreign visitors who not only can visit the temple but can also perform puja inside the temple.

Sarnath, a Buddhist city about 10 kms from Varanasi is one of the four most sacred sites of Buddhism. It is at Sarnath, where Lord Buddha first taught the Dharma and gave his first sermon to people about the middle path of life to attain nirvana. In the 3rd century BC, King Ashoka built engraved pillars and magnificent stupas and monasteries.

Sarnath is open to visitors on all days from Sun-rise to Sun-set. However, Sarnath museum is closed visitors on every Friday.

Muddy wrestling rings of Varanasi are the part of the cultural canvas of the holiest city. A short visit to one of these Akhadas in the mornning between 07:00 AM and 08:00 AM will give you an insight of the traditional Indian gymnasiums.
