The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located in the east of the Indian mainland geographically, float in splendid isolation in the Bay of Bengal. These picturesque islands numbering around 572, are covered with dense mangrove and evergreen forests and endless varieties of exotic flora and fauna. Most of these islands (about 550) are in the Andaman Group, 28 of which are inhabited and only 12 are open to tourists to visit. No island in Nicobar Group is open for tourism.
Port Blair is the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is well connected by daily direct flights from Delhi , Chennai , Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam. All foreign nationals are required to obtain Restricted Area Permit ( RAP ) besides their Visa upon arrival at Portblair which is easily available with-out any fee.
Among the beautiful islands, the most beautiful island is Havelock Island about 1.5 hours from Port Blair by Luxury Catamaran. There are couple of catamaran services between Port Blair and Havelock as per the schedule of the arrival and departure flights to / from Port Blair.
White sandy beaches separate crystal clear azure waters from lush curtains of rain forest green: this is nature at its best at Havelock Island. There is no dearth of beauty all seven beaches on this little island but the much-loved are Radhanagar and Vijaynagar Beaches. Radhanagar beach or beach no. 7 is one of the best beaches in Asia. The turquoise blue sea and white sand make this beach a perfect spot to bask in the midst of nature’s bounty.
One can just take a walk to the beach through the nature in the forest with a naturalist or just relax at pristine sandy beach watching Sunset. The Andamans is also an International hub for various water sports activities. Take a Kayak around the calm mangroves or enjoy a snorkel or scuba dive along with a trained PADI certified instructor to watch the marine wealth underwater.
