Jaipur, also known as Pink City due to the dominant colour scheme of its buildings, is the capital city of Indian state of Rajasthan in North India – a city of royal palaces and mighty forts where you can hear the songs and music of the time of Maharajas and Maharanis. This bustling ancient city is part of the most visited Golden Triangle Tour that includes Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Jaipur founded in 1727 AD by the than ruler Jai Singh II, the Raja of nearby Amber when he his capital from Amber to the new city to accommodate the rapidly-growing population. Then after, new forts, palaces and temples were constructed in Jaipur and its vicinity.
At the city’s center, the City Palace continues to be the home of the former royal family; the Jantar Mantar, the royal observatory still maintains the status of the biggest stone observatory in India, and the screens of Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds still gazes on the bazaar below. The former fortress of Amber at the out-skirts of the city, is the fairy-tale grandeur of Amber Fort, Jaipur’s star attraction.
Some new attractions added to the city are the Patrika Gate showcasing beautiful paintings and Albert Museum. Galta Ji and Birla Temple represent the religious aspects of the city. Though Jaipur is famous for Gems industry and Carpet weaving, the colourful and buzzing market streets of the city give ample opportunity to shoppers.
