Mount Everest, also known as Sagarmatha locally, is the world’s highest peak with an altitude of 8840 meters. Mighty Everest is shared between Nepal and Tibet and is a World Heritage Site as declared by UNESCO. First conquered by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953, Mount Everest has always been the first choice of trekkers around the world.

When it comes to a trek in mountains, Trek to Base Camp of mighty Mount Everest in Nepal is perhaps the best lifetime experience. The entire trek captures your spirit and soul as powerful as the Himalayan mountains themselves. Everest Base Camp ( EBC ) trek is through one of the world’s great mountain ranges, home to some of the world’s highest mountains and surrounded by stunning scenery, a fascinating history and wonderfully welcoming communities.

This classic Everest trek of 12 days through the Khumbu valley offers more than just a walking holiday: It is an experience where you immerse yourself in the peaceful world of Tibetan Buddhism framed by the majestic Himalayas.

A trek which starts from Lukla airport after a scenic flight from Kathmandu passes through the villages of Sherpas and other ethnic communities of Nepal, through still alpine lakes and glacial plains, through rivers and valleys and finally ends at the foot of Mount Everest , the Highest Peak in the world.

You don’t need to have any technical expertise or mountaineering skills as it is basically a long hike at altitude. The most part of the trek is through the zigzagged paths on the mountains where total distance (up and down) of 130 Kms is covered in 12 days including reserve days for rest and acclimatization. There are plenty of tea houses , villages and cultures, monasteries & gompas and prayer flags in the air to keep your energy and spirit up.

Day 1

Flight from Kathmandu (1400M) to Lukla (840 M) and trek to Phadking (2610 M)

An early morning, 45-minute scenic flight over 4 of the 5 highest peaks in the world will take you to a mountain airstrip in Lukla, the starting point of the expedition. Meet with your trekking guide and porters and get a pre-briefing of the trail. After a tea/coffee break at a restaurant at Lukla, trek up to Phakding (2610M) for about 2 hours till you arrive at your lodge.

Today is the first day of the trail and so the trek is much gentle downhill along the milky white Dudh Kosi river surrounded by forest on the sides of the valley. Hot lunch shall be served at your lodge. The rest of the day is free to relax or just walk in Phadking village for the first encounter with the village life of Nepal.

Trek: 2 hours: Easy: Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 2

Trek from Phadking (2610 M)- Monjo ( 2835 M)- Namche Bazar (3440 M)

After breakfast at your lodge, your real expedition to Mount Everest Base Camp starts today with a trek uphill from Phadking to Namche Bazar, the capital of Sherpas in the Khumbu region. You might even see the first views of Mount Everest at a distance from here. After following the valley and crossing the Dudh Kosi River, you will arrive at Monjo (2835 M) where an early hot lunch shall be arranged.

From Monjo, the trek will get a little tougher as you enter the national park, cross the river, and then continue upstream. Cross another spectacular suspension bridge spanning deep gorges and begin the ascent to arrive at a huge natural amphitheater with blue-roofed houses spread around the sides. Namche is the major trading center of the Khumbu, with Tibetans crossing the high Nangpa La Pass to reach the bustling Saturday morning market. Check-in at your lodge and enjoy the first glimpse of the peaks of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Taweche. The rest of the day shall be free to relax to acclimatize with a high altitude of 3440 meters.

Trek: 6-7 hours: easy to moderate: Dinner and overnight at your lodge in Namche Bazar.

Day 3

Namche Bazar – A day to relax and acclimatize

Today you will spend the whole day at Namche Bazar. We recommend that you just relax, sleep, and drink a lot of water to get hydrated. It is a day to re-collect all your energy and spirit for the wonderful experiences coming ahead during your expedition. Alternatively, you can have a small walk in Namche Bazar to experience the life of Sherpas. Namche will also be your last chance to check your equipment and hire any additional gear for the high altitudes from Dingboche (Day 5) onward. You can also go for a short walk to the Sherpa Museum.

No Trek. Overnight at your Mountain Lodge in Namche Bazar.

Day 4

Trek from Namche Bazar (3440 M)- Deboche (3850 M)

After breakfast at your lodge with the stunning views, another day of your trek with start with your trekking guide and your porters carry your bags to your next stop at Deboche at 3850 meters.

The trail is initially steep uphill and than opens to a large valley where you will have your tea break at one of the villages. Later you will climb up on two small but steep hills and than walk through the forests before you arrive at your lodge at Deboche. The entire route offers a great insight into the life and culture of Sherpas. Later lunch shall be served at your lodge.

Deboche is also famous for its Tengboche monastery of Sherpa community. It is believed to be auspicious to pay a visit to the monastery before continue climbing to Mount Everest.

Trek- 6 hours: Moderate: Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 5

Trek from Deboche ( 3850 M)- Dingboche ( 4410 M)

After breakfast at your lodge with views of Ama Dablam, you start the trek climbing up gradually above the tree line and by the side of the valley through the network of small fields enclosed by small stone walls to protect the crop of barley and potatoes from cold wind. A tea break will be arranged at a tea house in a village. You will arrive at your lodge by late after-noon however hot lunch shall be ready for you. Rest of the day is free to relax.

Trek: 6-7 hours: Moderate: Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 6

Dingboche (4410 M) – A day free to relax and acclimatize

Today, you will spend whole day at Dingboche. Our recommendations shall be to sleep well and drink lot of water. However, you can always have small walk up to a nearby village of Pheriche to listen the lectures on high altitude health at Himalayan Rescue Association. You can even get your medical check-up for high altitude. Alternatively, you can just walk outside your lodge to the village or nearby ridges.

No Trek.  Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 7

Trek from Dingboche ( 4410 M)- Lobuche (4910 M)

After breakfast, another trekking day of 6 hours from Dingboche to Lobuche starts with ascending a small ridge behind the village above the Pheriche valley which opens to fairly flat open fields. Later after crossing the Khumba Khola at Dughla, your light lunch shall be arranged at a tea house on the foots of Khumbu glacier flowing off mount Everest. Post lunch, there will be a comparative tough climb on steep and rocky hills to the top of the moraines. You will pass through numerous small stupas built in memory of the Sherpas and climbers who have died on various Everest expeditions. From here the views once again are spectacular with Pumori (7145 M), Lingtren (6697 M), Khumbutse (6623 M), surrounding you. By now, you will also start feeling that air is more thin as you follow the valley stream before arriving at your lodge at Lobuche by late after-noon.

Trek: 6-7 hours: Moderate: Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 8

Trek from Lobuche ( 4910 M)-Gorak Shep (5160 M)- Everest Base Camp ( 5360 M)- Gorak Shep (5160 M)

After an early breakfast at your lodge, be ready for the big day when your dream destination Everest Base Camp is just a few hours away from you. Collect all your positive energy and spirit as you start the first part of your trek following a broad valley along the Khumbu glacier, a series of small ascents and descents over rocky trails reaching the last outpost of a small collection of huts at Gorak Shep at 5160 M. It should take you around 3 hours up to Gorak Shep. An early brunch shall be arranged here.

Post brunch, get yourself geared up appropriately again as you start climbing up to Everest Base Camp. Trek for another 2 hours along the lateral moraine and finally over the Khumbu glacier itself to the base camp at the foot of the Khumbu Ice Fall. and yes in about 2 hours from Gorak Shep, you are here at Everest Base Camp. Unfortunately, you will not get the views of Everest from here but you can see glorious glaciers, lakes, caves, and the Everest Ice Fall. Spend some time looking at the life of climbers here OR just do meditation while we arrange some tea/coffee and snacks for you. Later you will return to Gorak Shep downhill in the same way to stay at your lodge at Gorak Shep.

Trek: 7-8 hours: Moderate to Tough: Early Dinner and overnight at your lodge in Gorak Shep.

Day 9

Trek from Gorak shep (5160 M)-Kala Patthar (5550 M)-Pheriche(4240 M)

Today you wake-up early and after a coffee at your lodge, you start ascending quite steep and tough walk due to high altitude to the summit of Kala Patthar which is a rocky hilltop below Mount Pumori. The walk from the lodge to this summit of Kala Pathar is around 1.5 hours. From here, you will witness some of the Himalayas most recognizable sights including Pumori, Nuptse, Changtse, Ama Dablam, Taweche, Kantega and Everest – they’re all here. Spend time as much as you like and absorb all your emotions in your memories before returning downhill to your lodge at Gorak Shep.

After breakfast, check-out and start returning downhill towards Namche Bazar through the same route which you took coming up, just as that you will stay at different villages to have a variety of experience. Today your first stop shall be at Pheriche at 4250 meters. A tea break shall be arranged at a village en-route. Hot lunch shall be served at your lodge late in after-noon.

Trek: 1.5 hours + 1.5 Hours: Moderate to Tough to Easy: Overnight at your lodge in Pheriche.

Day 10

Trek from Pheriche ( 4250 M)-Deboche (3850 M)

After a leisurely breakfast , start downhill trek to Deboche. As beautiful views of the mountains start leaving behind, You trek for about 4 hours To Deboche. Lunch shall be at your lodge at Deboche.

Trek: 4 hours : Easy: Overnight at your lodge at Deboche.

Day 11

Trek from Deboche ( 3850 M)- Namche Bazar (3440 M)

After your breakfast, pay a visit to Tengboche monastery to express your gratitude and start downhill trek to Namche Bazar. Check-in and relax at your lodge. Now is your time to re-connect with Wi-fi, upload your pictures or do some shopping of Tibetan artifacts.

Trek: 4 hours : Easy: Overnight at your lodge at Namche Bazar.

Day 12

Trek from Namche Bazar-Phadking (2610 M)- Lukla airport (2840 M)

After an early breakfast , you further trek down hill for about 3 hours to Lukla airport. Now is the time to say goodbye to your trekking guide and porters. Take a flight from Lukla airport to Kathmandu.
