Thamel being the main commercial street is the heart of Kathmandu. It is the hottest-spot for tourism inside the Kathmandu valley since the hippies days when many artists came to Nepal and spent weeks and months at Thamel.

Thamel is known for its narrow & crowded lanes with various shops and vendors selling  goods including food, fresh vegetables/fruits, pastries, trekking gear, walking gear, music, DVDs, handicrafts, souvenirs, woolen items and clothes. Thamel also acts as the pre-base camp for mountaineers as houses many shops selling / renting a wide range of mountaineering gears.

Thamel is the center of Kathmandu's nightlife. There are many cafes, restaurants and pubs serving traditional & continental cuisines with live music and other attractions frequented by both tourists and locals on Fridays and Saturdays.

Nepal, a country with medieval cultures in the lap of Himalayas and having boundaries with India, Bhutan and China has evolved a fusion food for to suit the taste buds of people from all around the world.

El Mediterraneo -Tapas Bar & Restaurant is a small yet cozy restaurant near Patan area. Restaurant  is famous for its authentic Spanish cuisines and is a good choice for lunch after visiting Patan.

Singing Bowls or Tibetan Singing Bowls have been used for centuries by Buddhist monks to practice meditation and stress relaxation.

Bowls made of brass and often having beautiful designs vibrates and produce a rich, deep tone when played. Singing Bowls have been used by practitioners (including music therapists, massage therapists, and yoga therapists) use Tibetan singing bowls during treatment. Many proponents claim that the vibrations of a singing bowl can produce beneficial changes in the body by reducing ​stress, "harmonizing" the cells, and "balancing the body's energy system."

Kathmandu is the best place to experience a session of meditation to reduce stress and harmonizing the body's energy system. Usually, a session is of about 45 minutes and is performed by a master.

Kathmandu is the gateway to the highest mountain peak of Everest. While lot of people trek up to the highest summit, you can fly to the top of the world for panoramic views of  mighty snow-capped peaks various mountain ranges of the Himalayas including Mount Everest.

However, timing is everything, as the mountains are notorious for disappearing behind cloudy skies. The best viewing seasons are October to December and March to April, when clear skies are likely.

It is suggested to combined an early morning visit to Dhulikhel with Namo Buddha , Temple of Changu Narayan and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

Namo Buddha, a small village which houses very old Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery , is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage in Nepal. The pilgrimage site of Namo Buddha is about 15 kms from Dhulikhel and about 40 kms from from the Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu city.

The glorious Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery at Namo Buddha houses six stories high main temple building in its center. The principal temple hall, located on the fourth floor, has thirty-six pillars, each enshrined a gilded bronze Buddha at the top. Fifteen mandalas from the great tantras adorn the ceiling. The three-story hidden sanctuary, behind the main temple, enshrines a central statue of the Victorious One (the Buddha of our times), flanked by the Buddha of the past and the Buddha of the future.

The monastery is the home to hundreds of Buddhist monks who live here to learn and practice principals of Buddhism. While monastery is an architectural marvel, people also visit Namo Buddha to meditate amidst the positive energy spread in whole complex.

It is recommended to visit Namo Buddha along with Dhulikhel in the morning when Buddhsit monks perform mantra chanting in the temple complex. Visit to Namo Buddha can be easily combined with visit to Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Temple of Changu Narayan.

Changu Narayan Temple, at the outskirts of Kathmandu City and about 6 kms north of Bhaktapur Durbar square is the oldest Hindu temple in Nepal. Located on a high hilltop also named as Changu or Dolagiri, the Changu Narayan Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dedicated to Hindu God, Vishnu, Changu Narayan is a two-story pagoda-style temple and surrounded by ancient carvings and statues.

The main temple is decorated with some of the finest carvings in the Kathmandu Valley. The supporting diagonal beams of the temple are decorated with intricate carvings of the 10 incarnations of Vishnu and various multi-armed Tantric goddesses. But the gems of the collection are the statues and carvings dotted around the courtyard, the oldest dating back to the Licchavi era (400 to 750).

It is suggested to combined an early morning visit to Dhulikhel with Namo Buddha , Temple of Changu Narayan and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.
